Introduction & Teaching Philosophy:

Confucius said, "A teacher is one who passes on ancient learning, confers knowledge, and removes doubts." As a teacher of Chinese to non-Chinese, perhaps the expectations are even higher. If one merely tries to teach a language without a broader cultural knowledge base, she might fail to bridge the gap between herself and her students, who come from other cultural contexts and backgrounds. I believe that I have to continually push myself to learn just as much as I will push my students.

I truly believe that each student is unique and requires different methods based on their individual learning styles. This isn't easy, and requires constant, effective communication in order to truly understand a student's needs and goals. I've found in teaching many corporate students that my experience in the IT and business worlds helps me relate well to their needs.

I've taught students of various ages and levels, from beginner to advanced, in both regular Chinese and Business Chinese courses. I've also taught students from more countries than I can remember, and have always enjoyed each and every experience!
