Chinese Art

Introduction:
Chinese ink and water painting is one of the most sacred forms of traditional Chinese art. It is one of the four basic skills and disciplines studied and developed by the Chinese literati. The four basic disciplines include: Shufa (calligraphy), Hua (painting), Qin (a string musical instrument), and Qi (a strategic, chess-like board game).

Chinese ink and water painting is a thousand-year tradition. During imperial times, painting and calligraphy were the most highly appreciated arts in court circles and were produced almost exclusively by aristocrats and scholar-officials. Thus, this class is a good way for students experience traditional Chinese painting and become familiar with how it connects directly with Chinese culture and philosophy.
