"Short-term Spoken Chinese" is written for students who come to China for a short time and want to develop spoken Chinese skills quickly. The series "Short-term Spoken Chinese" has 5 volumes, which separately meet the needs of all types of students ranging from elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels in Chinese proficiency.

Threshold

The threshold course book is designed for total beginners to the Chinese language. This course book contains 30 lessons, including a phonetic section. These lessons focus on the most commonly used words, sentences, and daily expressions used in spoken Chinese.

Elementary

The Elementary course book is designed for those who have elementary listening and speaking skills and know approximately 800 words and simple sentences. Altogether, the book contains 25 lessons covering vocabulary in common use, special pattern drills, an introduction to more complex sentences structures, and daily life, study, social communicating expressions.

Elevated

Learners that have basic listening and speaking skills and have mastered general pattern drills, important complex sentence structures, and approximately 1500 words use the Elevated course book. This course book contains 25 lessons covering grammar and vocabulary, and general daily communication items, including, study, social activities and work.

Intermediate

Students that have mastered over 2500 words and commonly used grammar will progress to the Intermediate course book. This course book altogether has 14 lessons covering special spoken Chinese sentence patterns and vocabulary which have special grammatical function. These items include simple essays, and complicated communication items related to life, study, work, society and culture.

Advanced

The Advanced course book has been designed for students that have good listening and speaking skills and have mastered over 3500 words. These students can basically express themselves fluently and appropriately using complicated sentences. The course book contains 20 lessons covering new and complex grammar points and additional communication items relating to social culture, and occupation. The emphasis is to enhance the student's ability to express opinions and attitude.
