Introduction & Teaching Philosophy:
With over 10 years of teaching Chinese to students of all backgrounds, ages and proficiency levels, Chi Liyan (Lisa) is one of CLE's more experienced and popular teachers. Lisa has lived, studied and worked in Beijing her entire life and has vast and intimate knowledge of the city. She also has a bit of a travel bug, and has visited most of China, making her very familiar with Chinese culture and history from different regions of the country.

Lisa gets great personal and professional satisfaction from helping students work through the difficulties of learning Chinese and watching them progress through the language. Past experience has taught her that students learn best if taught in a relaxed and stimulating environment.  Therefore, she focuses on creating a fun and engaging learning environment during each class. She customizes teaching materials to suit the needs of students, and is currently using modern Chinese movies, TV programs, and newspaper and magazine articles; thus, allowing students not only learn good Mandarin, but also a great deal about modern Chinese culture, values and lifestyles.
